The Humphrey Millennium guitar has a rather unorthodox configuration, best seen in its side view. The fingerboard is elevated high above the soundboard, the neck to soundboard angle is increased and the body has a canted top. These features allow the strings to cross the saddle and to pull on the bridge and soundboard at a steeper angle while preserving normal string action over the fingerboard. The steeper string angle affects the energy transfer from the strings to the soundboard as well as the dynamics of the soundboard, and the Millennium has special soundboard bracing to complement these physics.

The soundboard is made of matching halves of straight-grained spruce with grain spacing that varies from 22 per inch at the center to 14 per inch near the edges. The bridge is rosewood and its tie-block is capped with bone string wear strips and a line design. The three-piece back and the sides are slab-cut, highly figured Brazilian rosewood with top and bottom purfling. Neck and head are mahogany and the head is faced with rosewood that matches the body. Humphrey signed and dated this guitar “November 1990” on the inside of the upper treble bout.

This guitar is in as-new condition with a French polish of shellac finish. The sound is powerful, incisive and well balanced.
