The soundboard is made from halves of excellent straight-grained spruce showing lots of medullary ray markings and tight grain spacing of 30 per inch. The rosette has a pattern band of red flowers linked by mosaic vines, surrounded by concentric circles and peripheral bands of small diamonds. The bridge is flame-grained rosewood and its tie-block is edged with bone. Back and sides are Brazilian rosewood with pale-green purfling in the Hauser manner. Neck and head are mahogany and the head is faced with flame-grained rosewood matching the bridge. The fingerboard is ebony and has high frets. The finish is a thinly applied synthetic varnish.

This is a powerful concert instrument. Ruck’s logotype is stamped on both treble and bass sides of the inside soundboard. Handwritten on the interior treble side is:

#239
R. S. Ruck
1981

This guitar is in excellent condition. In 1984 Robert Ruck reglued the face to the head and also repaired some small soundboard cracks with hide glue. No reinforcing cleats were necessary.
