The soundboard is made of two pieces of straight-grained spruce with much medullary ray structure. Grain spacing varies from 40 per inch near the center to 20 per inch at the edges. The rosette has a central theme band of nested trapezoids made of several small pieces of light and dark woods, and natural wood circles provide inner and outer borders to this central band. Back and sides are quartersawn Indian rosewood, with single purfling.

The unusual bridge is made of a single piece of ebony. There is no tie-block and the strings are routed back through grooves and small holes in the bridge and secured by string knots on the soundhole side of the bridge. Individual slotted metal pins, adjustable in height by tiny shims, raise each string a proper distance above the soundboard and act as the levers for transmitting vibrations from the string to the bridge. Neck and head are mahogany with the head faced with ebony. The ebony fingerboard has medium-sized frets.

There is a continuous wide (7mm) solid cedar lining around the perimeter of the sides midway between the soundboard and back. The foot of the neck, which is normally glued to the upper back of a guitar, is not present. In its place is an extension of the neck, as wide as the width of the fingerboard, that protrudes under and is glued to the soundboard.

The sound is excellent. Timbre from every string is similar, the treble is clear and controlled, and the bass is clear and crisp. The instrument is in as-new condition.
