The rosette has a central lozenge pattern with inner and outer rings. The bridge is rosewood with its tie-block edged with bone. The back and sides are straight-grained Indian rosewood with purfling of natural wood and a natural wood inlay in the center seam of the back. The neck and head are straight-grained mahogany. The face of the head is veneered with rosewood and a center band of natural wood strips. The fingerboard is ebony with medium frets.

This instrument is one of Kono’s early efforts. It is in excellent condition with its original French polish of shellac. Its tone is clear, warm and balanced with medium volume. Execution of design is straightforward and workmanship is clean and precise.
