The soundboard is made of two matched pieces of good quality spruce with grain spacing that varies from 23 per inch at the center to 11 per inch at the edges. The rosette exhibits brilliant artistry and precise execution with a central band of an interlocking black scroll pattern in a natural background bordered by circles and bands of precise half-chevrons. The bridge is rosewood with its tie-block edged with bone. Back and sides are fiddle-back maple and there is single purfling on the soundboard and back.

The center seam of the back is filleted with three stripes of black wood. Head and neck are cedar and the head is veneered on its face with rosewood. Present tuning machines date from the 1930s. The fingerboard is ebony with frets that are larger than typical for early twentieth century guitars.

The sound of this guitar is historically marvelous with a dark resonant character that manifests itself in the tone of this instrument. Its low action, high frets, close string spacing and comfortable neck make playing easy, and the light construction and thin maple back physically connect the player to the musical vibrations of this instrument. This instrument is in very good condition, showing some normal playing wear on the back and three well repaired cracks on the soundboard.
