This extraordinarily decorated guitar is made of select materials and is built with meticulous craftsmanship and painstaking attention to an artistic theme. The sheer quantity of work involved (over 70,000 decorative pieces) and the finest woods and hardware suggests that this was a presentation instrument made for giving to a patron of the South American classical guitar world.

The two-piece soundboard is made from near perfect European spruce; quartersawn with its straight grain spaced as close as 40 per inch and never wider than 30 per inch. The rosette has a central band of interlocked mosaic diamonds in a saw-tooth pattern. Circles and bands of square-wave patterns surround the central band. The countless pieces of this rosette are colored several shades of brown and orange. The rosewood bridge has its tie-block capped with an ivory inset, inset itself with a mosaic matching that of the rosette.

The two-piece back is Brazilian rosewood with a wide (20mm) meander-based patterned band in the central seam. The Brazilian rosewood sides also have this band running longitudinally down their center. Wide (13mm) square-wave pattern purfling on all body edges and seams coordinate the guitar’s artistic theme. The neck and head are cedar. The head is veneered with a thick (4mm) piece of ebony carved to depict an angry winged male head. Deluxe engraved tuning machines with mother-of-pearl grips are fitted. The ebony fingerboard has 19 medium frets and an ivory nut. The guitar appears to have its original French polish of shellac finish.

This lavishly decorated and heavy (1610 grams) guitar has a sound that is slightly stuffy with medium volume and limited tone color. It does have very good sounding E1 and D4 strings, especially in higher fret positions, and an even timbre. This guitar is a beautiful conversation piece that can provide for pleasurable private playing.
