The soundboard is made of halves of excellent close- and straight-grained spruce with grain spacing of 36 per inch at the center seam to 24 per inch at the edges. The artistic rosette has a pattern band of Greek-looking square-wave design bordered by circles of red, black and natural colors and inner and outermost bands of dots. The bridge is rosewood with its tie-block edged with bone strips.

Back and sides are straight-grained Indian rosewood with maple edging and single purfling. Neck and head are Spanish cedar and the head is faced with rosewood. Tuning machines are nicely engraved and of good quality for serious use. The ebony fingerboard has medium-height frets.

This instrument is in as-new condition with its original French polish of shellac finish and no observable wear. Its sound is a wonderful vivacious combination of concentrated controlled midrange, singing brilliant treble and quick solid bass. Sonority is slightly dark with a touch of edgy character, yet there is clearness and cleanness to the sound. There is a great range of tone color and volume available. Balance is superb.
