This guitar showcases Viudes’ skills, combining excellent musical qualities and nice artistic concepts into a superb sounding and beautiful instrument. The soundboard is made from matched halves of clear and straight-grained spruce with grain spacing ranging from 19 per inch near the center joint to 13 per inch at the edges. The exquisite rosette has a theme band of blocks of cuneiform design alternating with blocks containing tiny central diamonds and corner triangles. The bridge is ebony with two bone strips inset into the top of its tie-block.

Back and sides are of subtly figured, quartersawn Brazilian rosewood with triple purfling on the top and double purfling on the other edges. The fingerboard is ebony with medium-height frets. Neck and head are straight-grained Spanish cedar and the neck has a large rounded heel proportionate to the large head of the guitar. The head is faced with dyed wood and masterfully carved in high relief to show the Castilla Segovia of Segovia, Spain, with musical notes spilling down its ramparts. Slots in the head have a carved treatment with “Gothic windows” and a combination of crossed lute and dagger. The head is fitted with large and extravagantly engraved brass tuning machines fitted with crest-shaped ivory-like grips. Both top and back linings are kerfed and the inside back and sides are varnished.

The guitar is in excellent condition with a new French polish finish. Sound is elegant, polished and clear.
