Manuel Ramírez, Flamenco – 1913

Likely the first use of the classification
FLAMENCO by a noted guitar maker.
The hefty penciled-in price raises are
probably to keep up with inflation of
the peseta. Courtesy of R. E. Bruné.

This instrument is in restored condition with several repaired cracks in the soundboard and a French polish refinish on the soundboard. The soundboard is made from halves of straight grained spruce with grain spacing of 28 per inch at the center seam widening to 10 per inch at the edges. The rosette has a central band of loosely defined mosaic diamonds bound with heavy black rings which are in turn bound by several thin rings. The bridge is dyed wood with its tieblock edged with strips of bone. A white plastic golpeador is on the treble side of the soundboard. Back and sides are cypress with double purfling on the soundboard edge. Neck and head are cedar with the head faced with rosewood. The fingerboard is ebony with medium-height frets.

Harmonic bars and crossbars have straight ends and the center seam of the back is reinforced with a strip of cross-grained cedar. Harmonic bars rest on small triangular supports. The name “HERIBERTO LAZCANO,” a former owner of this guitar, is stamped on the inside lower bass bout of the back.
