This commissioned guitar was made by Jeffrey R. Elliott with the highest quality materials available.

The two-piece soundboard is of book-matched European spruce with grain spacing of 28 per inch at the center seam to 16 per inch at the bouts. The quartersawn wood has visually interesting medullary grain that can be acoustically beneficial. The central ring of a wave-pattern mosaic is bordered by inner and outer rings of a delicate chip carving, suggestive of a herringbone design, with both bordered by complementary purfling. The bridge is carved Brazilian rosewood with mammoth ivory strips protecting its tie-block edges and is fitted with a mammoth ivory saddle.

The book-matched back and matched sides are seldom-seen quartersawn Spanish cypress. A five-strip fillet, matching the purfling, joins the seam of the two-piece back as well as the seam of the two sides at the bottom of the guitar. The one-piece neck is Spanish cedar and both sides of the head are veneered with East Indian rosewood. The custom engraved nickel-silver Rodgers tuning machines have plate ends shaped to match the top of the head design and are fitted with mammoth ivory grips. The fingerboard is ebony with nineteen medium-size nickel-silver frets and a mammoth ivory nut. A highest quality French polish of shellac finish is applied.

The internal bracing pattern is a version of his open harmonic bar configuration, optimized by wood selection for braces and struts to suit the cypress body. The harmonic bars have slightly tapered ends and rest on shaped side stiffeners. The diagonal struts in the upper bout have tapered ends. The top lining is of individual shaped and spaced cedar blocks, and the back lining is kerfed cedar strips. Cross-grained cedar strips reinforce the back center seam.

This guitar’s sound is quick, clear, sweet in midrange and treble, slightly dry and easy and interesting to listen to. Notes seem to generate instantly and project quickly out to the audience. Volume is sufficient for all but the largest venues where some house amplification is the norm anyway. This guitar is effortless to play for hours.
