Ignacio Fleta Sr. (1897-1977) built instruments in Barcelona from 1927 to his death. The two-piece soundboard is made of spruce with very close grain and strong medullary rays. Grain spacing graduates from 30 per inch at the center to 22 per inch near the edges. The rosette has a central mosaic of diamonds and stars bordered with bands of grain-of-wheat design along with several concentric circles. The bridge is rosewood with a mosaic design outlined with bone on top of its tie-block.
Back and sides are quartersawn Indian rosewood. The ebony fingerboard is narrow and the neck is shallow making this a very comfortable guitar to play. Frets are medium height. Neck and head are made from virola wood and the face of the head is veneered with rosewood. Weighing 1770 grams, this instrument is heavier than most Spanish guitars.
Harmonic bars and crossbars have scalloped ends and the center seam of the back is reinforced with a strip of cross-grained mahogany. There are tapered side braces for each side just above and below the waist. Both the top and back linings are kerfed.
This guitar is in as-new condition and still has its original French polish of shellac. Good tone production is easy and Its sound is handsome with a hint of bass emphasis.
